Winter (December–February) is for hardy travellers — heavy snow closes most mountain passes, but the scenery is spectacular and hotel rates are at their lowest.
TRAVEL TIPS: Acclimatise for at least 24 hours upon arrival in high-altitude destinations like Skardu (2,500m) and Deosai (4,100m). Carry warm clothing even in summer — temperatures drop significantly at night. Book accommodation well in advance for July and August, the busiest months. And consider travelling with a group for better rates on transport and hotels.
